HUGE pipeline to measure temporal genetic variation in Drosophila suzukii populations for genetic biocontrol applications

چکیده
Understanding the fine-scale genome sequence diversity that exists within natural populations is important for developing models of species migration, temporal stability, and range expansion. For invasive species, agricultural pests, disease vectors, at specific loci in can impact efficacy next-generation genetic biocontrol strategies. Here we describe a pipeline haplotype-resolution variant discovery quantification from thousands Spotted Wing Drosophila ( suzukii , SWD) isolated two field sites North-Central United States (Minnesota) across seasons. We observed highly similar single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) frequencies each genomic location site year. This supports hypotheses SWD overwinters Minnesota, annually populated by same source or combination both theories. Also, stable structure allows rational design technologies population suppression.

Genetic Variation Within PoPulations
Seven microsatellite loci were used to develop multilocus genotypes for 49 individuals of Neotoma stephensi (Stephen’s woodrat) collected from nine sites in central and northern Arizona. Several statistical analyses were used to determine genetic structure, levels of genetic variability, and degree of relatedness. Structure analyses estimated two distinct groups within localities. The FST value...
متن کاملGenetic changeover in Drosophila populations.
Three populations of Drosophila melanogaster that were daughter populations of two others with histories of high, continuous radiation exposure [population 5 (irradiated, small population size) gave rise to populations 17 (small) and 18 (large); population 6 (irradiated, large population size) gave rise to population 19 (large)] were maintained for 1 year with no radiation exposure. The frequen...

BACKGROUND Common diseases may be attributed to combinations of variant alleles, but there are few model systems where the interactions among such variants can be studied in controlled genetic crosses. While association studies are designed to detect common polymorphisms of moderate effect, new approaches are required to characterize the impact on disease of interactions among rare alleles. M...
متن کاملDrosophila suzukii: The Genetic Footprint of a Recent, Worldwide Invasion
Native to Asia, the soft-skinned fruit pest Drosophila suzukii has recently invaded the United States and Europe. The eastern United States represents the most recent expansion of their range, and presents an opportunity to test alternative models of colonization history. Here, we investigate the genetic population structure of this invasive fruit fly, with a focus on the eastern United States....
